The Schuylkill Technology Center offers many Logistics and Transportation related programs at its various campuses.
For adults, the programs offered are:
- Automotive Technology is a 1080 hour program. Students enrolled in this program learn how to diagnose, repair, and maintain today’s modern and complex automobiles. This program is an ASE certified program dealing with all eight areas of automotive repair ranging from engine repair, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical, heating and air conditioning, transmissions, and engine performance. This program is offered at the North Campus.
- Electro Mechanical Technology is a 1080 hour program that is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the electromechanical field. The students are provided with the knowledge and experience in the areas of safety, electrical wiring, motor controls, electronics, programmable logic controllers, robotics, and fluid power systems. Students are prepared to enter the workforce in the maintenance and electrical fields of industrial equipment. This program is offered at the North Campus.
- Commercial Driver’s License Program is offered as a full-time day class consisting of 400 hours. It is a full scale program which is divided into two phases.
Phase I ~ Classroom: The classroom is located at the Lifelong Learning Center in the Schuylkill Mall. During the first four weeks, students will learn everything needed to pass the CDL knowledge tests for a Class A license, including air brakes, hazardous materials, doubles-triples, and tank vehicles.
Phase II ~ Skills Training: The skills training portion of the program is located at the Schuylkill County Airport, just off of I-81 at Minersville. During these six weeks, the students will receive training on pre-trip inspections, backing maneuvers, and all types of road driving. Prior to the end of the training program, students will be given the opportunity to take and pass the CDL Skills Test.
- Heavy Equipment Program teaches students to safely operate large construction equipment such as backhoes, hydraulic excavators, rubber tire loaders/dozers, vibrating rollers, and more. This training will last for 10 weeks at the Schuylkill County Airport in Minersville.
For high school students, the programs offered are:
- Electro Mechanical Technology is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in the electromechanical field. The students are provided with the knowledge and experience in the areas of safety, electrical wiring, motor controls, electronics, programmable logic controllers, robotics, and fluid power systems. Students are prepared to enter the workforce in the maintenance and electrical fields of industrial equipment. The certificate from this program may be articulated toward an associate degree with Lehigh Carbon Community College in related technical fields.
- Automotive Technology this course emphasizes the tools, equipment and techniques that are important in the automotive industry. Applicants for this course must have completed ninth grade. During this three year program, students receive specialized classroom, shop and on-the-job experience. They learn to diagnose, maintain and repair automobiles. They also become familiar with various tools that are used to service the automotive engine, power train, chassis and suspension parts. In addition, students study the automotive, electrical, fuel, safety and air management systems.
